The Maine Forest and Logging Museum welcomes photography on our beautiful, historic grounds. To help preserve the site and ensure a respectful experience for all visitors, we ask that photographers follow the guidelines below.
Please Note: Anyone being paid for their work—whether full-time, part-time, or as a hobby—is considered a professional photographer under our policy.
Personal Photography
Personal-use photography is welcome under the following conditions:
- Allowed during operating hours on the grounds.
- Permitted inside Museum buildings that are open and staffed by Museum personnel or representatives.
- Do not enter closed buildings or restricted areas.
Media Photography
- Media photography is allowed with advance notice.
- Please contact the Museum office prior to your visit.
Commercial & Professional Photography
Professional and commercial photographers must:
- Notify the Museum office prior to visiting to:
- Obtain approval.
- Receive a copy of the full photography policy.
- Acquire a photography pass.
- Ensure all clients pay regular admission ($5 for anyone over 12 years old).
- Avoid disrupting regular visitors during operating hours—exclusive access is not granted.
- Refrain from scheduling portrait sessions during public events.
Site Conduct & Safety
While on Museum property:
- Respect all posted signs, restricted areas, and Museum policies, including our dog policy.
- Do not use or handle artifacts or equipment (e.g., wagons, bateaux) unless explicitly permitted and supervised by Museum staff.
- No climbing on trees, fences, structures, or equipment.
- All behavior must be safe, legal, and appropriate at all times.
Failure to Comply
Noncompliance with Museum policies may result in:
- Loss of photography privileges.
- Removal from the premises.
Legal Responsibility
It is the responsibility of the photographer to:
- Comply with copyright laws.
- Obtain all necessary releases or consent for any individuals photographed.
