Kick off the season with steam, saws, and living history in motion!

Join us for Summer at Leonard’s Mill, the Maine Forest and Logging Museum’s first major event of the season — and one of the most exciting! This is the day when the museum comes fully alive, with the sounds of working machinery, the smell of wood smoke, and the hum of summer excitement across the campus.

It’s the perfect time to explore everything the museum has to offer: from our water-powered sawmill and active blacksmith shop to logging demonstrations and family-friendly activities throughout the grounds. Don’t miss the star of the show — our steam-powered 1910 Lombard log hauler makes its first public run of the year, showcasing one of the rarest operating steam machines in North America.

Whether you’re a returning fan or a first-time visitor, this day offers a hands-on, all-senses experience of Maine’s logging and milling past.

Event highlights include:

  • The first run of the season for the steam Lombard log hauler
  • Fully operational water-powered sawmill
  • Blacksmithing and woodworking demonstrations
  • Guided tours and living history interpretation
  • Food vendors, local artisans, and fun for the whole family

Bring your curiosity and your camera — there's something to discover around every corner.
